Velez Rubio is a place in which you'll find the oldest church in the province. La Iglesia Barroca de la Encarnación (barroque church), is a fanstastic structure with a magnificent altar measure 20 meters in height and made out of hand carved wood. Vélez Rubio is where you'll find the largest Baroque church in the province - La Encarnacíon. It's a fantasic structure. The altar itself is a magnificent 20 metres high, made out of carved wood.
Close by is the Cueva de los Letreros, where you can see the prehistoric caves. Inside there's qu. There's everything; human figures, birds, animals, and various astological signs along with the legendary "Indalo" figure.
It has now become one of the most popular logos in Spain. It stands with its arms streched above it head holding an arch. Shrouded in mystery and intrigue, its true meaning is still unkown but it's thought to have some magical significance. Then again, it could just be a marker used to indicate that there was a tribe in the cave. Noone really knows.
During the 1960's, the symbol became an emblem of the avant-garde artistic movement in Mojacar. Nowadays, it has become the the symbol that represents the province of Almeria. |
