To speak of the interior of the province of Almeria is to speak of the Desert of Tabernas, of Nijar and the Paraje Natural Karst in Yesos de Sorbas. We must also mention municipalities such as Macael, of the Sierra Gádor, of Vélez Rubio, Albox and Vicar amongst others.

Our first recomendation if you are planning on visiting the interior of the province during your holidays in Almeria is to visit Tabernas. It is small quaint town situated in the heart of the Desierto de Tabernas, a unique place in Europe because of it's dryness, beauty, magnetism and colors. Tabernas and it's desert have been locations of many westerns done by Hollywood. There actors like Clint Eastwood, Anthony Quinn and Sean Connery have filmed a few of their famous movies there like the Good the Bad and the Ugly, A fist full of Dollars, or Lawrence of Arabia. Most recently in El Tiempo, the spanish director Alex de la Iglesia filmed 800 balas (800 bullets), title that relieved the current problems in that area, with the absence of movie filmings. In this spot you can relive old gun shots of the west in teh small existing towns.

On the other hand, speaking of the interior of Almeria, we can't leave out Nijar, in the north of Cabo de Gata, a small town, of white facades, known for it's esparto grass articles, it's blankets and ceramics. We must also mention of the interior of Almeria the Sierra de Alhamilla, it gives a breath of fresh air to this location, and it's the perfect spot for trekking lovers.

Paraje Natural Karst (natural rest spot) in Yesos de Sorba is the biggest compound of plaster known worldwide.
