Cycling through this area is an unforgettable experience. You can pass through an enormous variety of terrain all within a very short time.
You'll cycle over high mountain terrain, then right down to the Mediterranean coast. Along the way, you'll pass though the picturesque old Moorish villages of the Alpujarra and the pristine beaches of Europe's only desert oasis. Crossing the landscapes of southeastern Andalusia is like taking a journey back in time.
One popular route is from Guadix to Cabo de Gata. Along the way it passes through Yegen, Laujar de Andarax, Bentarique and San José. It's a mixture culture, landscape and sea.
There's something magical about riding under the unique light of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. On route, you'll get to sample delicious local cuisine, which is completely unique and varied.
If you're lucky you might even get to see flocks of flamingos take flight from the Cabo de Gata salt flats.
Two of the high points of the route are the village of Yegen, immortalized in the writings of the English traveller, Gerald Brenan and the stunning Cabo de Gata coastline.
