As you pass from village to village, you'll get a unique opportunity to learn the history of the area as you are exposed to a culture where traditional methods remain very much a part of every day life.
You'll pass through a diverse landscape of chestnut, Holm oak and pine forests, surrounded by high mountain pastures and the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Riding here is incredibly peaceful.
The Sierra Nevadas are the highest mountain range on the Spanish mainland. They cover an area of around 1,000 square miles; there are literally hundreds of horse-riding routes to choose from.
The Sierra Nevada region was declared a biospherical reserve by UNESCO in 1986. Due to its microclimates, it has some of the richest botanical life in Europe. There are an impressive 52 indigenous species and 11 subspecies here - that's more than the entire continent of Europe and Russia together.
A typical itinerary would include airport transfer by mini-van to the village of Bubion; a small white washed village on the slope of the Poqueira Valley, where you'd stay here in a comfortable guesthouse.
The following day, the journey begins through some of the most stunning countryside in Spain. Over the course of the holiday you'll; pass through villages at altitudes of over 5,250 feet; taste authentic Spanish cuisine; drink plenty of beer and wine; pass through Trevelez, the highest village in Spain; have lunch in Granada; see the spectacular Alhambra Palace, etc...
