ROMERIA : 6th January
This festival takes place in the Hermitage of Tower Garci'a.
Description: This is a commemoration of the appearance of the Virgin of the Sea, Patron of the City, in 1502. The image is transported from the Church of Santo Domingo to the Hermitage of Tower Garci'a, in the beach of this name, where it appeared all those years ag. In the evening they return it to its original location.

Carnival : 8th Feb to 17th Feb
Location: the streets of Almeria.
Description: A very traditional Almerian festival. From 1983 onwards it was celebrated with force.

Easter : 24th March to 31st March (Semana Santa)
Location: In the central streets.
Description: Everywhere in Spain, this is one of the biggest and best celebrations of the year.

Crosses of May : 5th May (Cruces de Mayo)
Location: In the streets of Almeria.
Description: This is a very religious celebration. All the streets and crossings are adorrned.Popular activities are organized by the local townspeople.

San Juan : 24th June
Place: The beach (all over Spain).
Description: The longest night of the year (from the 23 to the 24 of June) is celebrated by setting alight huge bonfires all along the beach. Everyone joins in the fun. It's customary to take a midnight dip in the ocean; regardless of the weather!!

Fair of the Virgin of the Sea : 22nd August to 31st August (Feria de la Virgen del Mar)
Location: Fairground.
Description: This is a celebration in honour of the Virgin Santísima of the Sea, Patron of the city.

Celebrations of the Banner : 26th December (Fiestas del Pendon)
Place: In the streets.
Description: This is a celebration of the of the conquest of Almeria by Catholic kings in 1489.
